چکیده

Atom sensing based on Faraday rotation is an indispensable method for precision measurements, universally suitable for both hot and cold atomic systems. Here we demonstrate an all-optical magnetometer where the optical cell for Faraday rotation spectroscopy is augmented with a low finesse cavity. Unlike in previous experiments, where specifically designed multipass cells had been employed, our scheme allows to use conventional, spherical vapour cells. Spherical shaped cells have the advantage that they can be effectively coated inside with a spin relaxation suppressing layer providing long spin coherence times without addition of a buffer gas. Cavity enhancement shows in an increase in optical polarization rotation and sensitivity compared to single-pass configurations.

High sensitivity Faraday-magnetometry with intracavity electromagnetically induced transparency

We suggest a multiatom cavity quantum electrodynamics system for the weak magnetic field detection based on Faraday rotation with intracavity electromagnetically induced transparency. The collective coupling between the cavity modes and the atomic ensemble can be used to improve the sensitivity. With single probe photon input, the sensitivity is inversely proportional to the number of atoms, an...

Relaxivity of gadolinium complexes detected by atomic magnetometry.

Laser atomic magnetometry is a portable and low-cost yet highly sensitive method for low magnetic field detection. In this work, the atomic magnetometer was used in a remote-detection geometry to measure the relaxivity of aqueous gadolinium-diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid Gd(DTPA) at the Earth's magnetic field (40 μT). The measured relaxivity of 9.7±2.0 s(-1) mM(-1) is consistent with field...

Scalable spin squeezing for quantum-enhanced magnetometry with Bose-Einstein condensates.

A major challenge in quantum metrology is the generation of entangled states with a macroscopic atom number. Here, we demonstrate experimentally that atomic squeezing generated via nonlinear dynamics in Bose-Einstein condensates, combined with suitable trap geometries, allows scaling to large ensemble sizes. We achieve a suppression of fluctuations by 5.3(5) dB for 12,300 particles, from which ...

Controlling the cavity field with enhanced Kerr nonlinearity in three-level atoms

We experimentally demonstrate cavity field control by another laser beam with three-level L-type atoms inside an optical ring cavity. By adjusting the frequency detuning of the controlling beam ~coupled to one of the atomic transitions!, the intensity of the cavity field interacting with another atomic transition is switched on and off. Such all-optical switching between two steady states is ca...

Amplified Quantum Dynamics and Enhanced Parameter Sensitivity via Coherent Feedback in Collective Atomic Spin Systems

We consider the effective dynamics obtained by double-passing a fardetuned laser probe through a large atomic spin system. The net result of the atomfield interaction is a type of coherent positive feedback that amplifies the values of selected spin observables. An effective equation of motion for the atomic system is presented, and an approximate 2-parameter model of the dynamics is developed ...
